The Alcema team have an abundance of experience working on construction projects in the education sector. We feel privileged to work on these knowing they have a direct impact on their local communities. With Social Impact carrying so much weight and significance within the construction industry we are ever mindful of the need to create healthy environments for children and young people within education. We work with designers and planners to ensure our buildings provide a positive, relaxed atmosphere which allows individuals to feel comfortable so they can learn to their full potential.
Working in a live environment safely with students
We are highly skilled at working in live environments across all sectors and each sector presents different issues when there is the need to remain fully operational. Within the education sector specifically we have worked in live and fully operational nurseries, primary schools, secondary schools and universities. Working around the needs of children and young people we are acutely aware of the importance of effective health and safety practices during construction works. In close communication with our clients, we cater our work activities to the needs of the school, its staff, and its students.
Creating A Positive Environment
Education is a competitive sector financially and operates in the commercial world like any other business. Numbers count. We know beautifully designed buildings equipped with latest advances in technology will encourage student numbers and attract high-achieving students, as well as attract highly qualified staff. Increased funding from increased student numbers will benefit all students regardless of ability, and all promotes towards an upwards spiral in community growth and progression.
From nurseries and primary schools to colleges and universities we have a passion to create buildings which the local communities are proud to take ownership of. We strive to create buildings which are aesthetically pleasing but also enable users to look back on their time spent in these positively. We want them to feel the premises provided an environment which added to their general wellbeing and enabled a ‘reach for the stars’ positive mindset for their futures. A tall aim but with local councils in full support of this ethos we are determined to push forward with this goal. We want to inspire all age groups, and everyone involved in an Alcema project; every client, every investor, every end user.

Working with Local Authorities
The Alcema team have worked with multiple Councils, including Haringey, Buckinghamshire Council and Royal Borough of Greenwich Council, Tower Hamlets and London Borough of Bexley. Since joining the LHC Framework in October 2021 we have noted a significant uplift in enquiries from the Education sector via their inclusion under the Public Buildings Framework.
We have found what starts as a one-off project with many councils almost always leads to further projects varying in scale. We are happy to consider projects across all sectors ranging in size and complexity. We appreciate often smaller projects are not always sought after within the construction industry. Alcema is happy to consider all projects regardless of size, seeing this as part of the Alcema service. It is about ongoing client relations and meeting a client’s needs rather than a ‘pick and choose’ work practise. Being an SME we have the agility, and the team have the experience, to bring in exactly the right people for each and every project. Often a smaller project once delivered has led to further work with the Council as they experience our commitment to deliver all we have promised from the outset.
Building relationships has always been an integral part of Alcema’s daily life; a non-negotiable goal for any company intent on long-term growth. The bank of trusted subcontractors and partners we use are all in agreement that all future success is dependent on building trust, meeting expectations and going beyond these wherever possible. Working in a collaborative way from inception to delivery underpins all we do and the future of the next generation is always in mind.
