    OVERVIEW

This was a JCT with Quantities Contract for the refurbishment and upgrade of 42nr private ward bedrooms with ensuites, plus a full refurbishment and upgrade of the existing live operating theatres, catheter laboratories and doctors quarters with Nuffield Hospital.

This was a project which Alcema colleagues worked on in their previous employments. Together they carried out the refurbishment works across all floors of a live and very busy hospital. During the works, the client used their mobile temporary operating theatre to allow them to meet patient needs throughout the project.

The works were phased in such a way to allow the hospital to continue to offer their patients quality medical service they have always provided.

    WORKS METHODOLOGY

Works included investigation into the legacy condition of the building, strip out of all bedrooms, en-suites, operating theatres and catheter laboratories and doctors quarters, refurbishment of all 42 bedrooms and en-suites, upgrade of the mechanical and engineering (M&E) installation, full fit out of all areas worked on and ensure Nuffield new rebranding was installed throughout the facility

    COLLABORATIVE APPROACH

The scope of works was much more extensive than originally planned when stripping out works revealed significant shortcomings in the fire stopping.

The team took the issues on board and with the design consultants provided the client with solutions to ensure delivery of the scheme and sign off for all building control requirements. The approach was that, on each phase, an information gathering period would allow the design team to collate and develop the scheme in a ‘just in time’ way.

Strong relationships between all parties facilitated good communication to ensure the project ran smoothly and the projects critical path was maintained.
